What sacrifices should people make for freedom?
This question ties directly to a memoir I read in class. The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls is filled with conflicts of independence. The Walls family is a free-spirited family that will not accept any charity or favors from anyone. They are very proud of their independence and would do nothing to sacrifice it. The mother, Rose Mary, has a teaching degree but refuses to work because it disrupts her freedom. She would rather be living on the streets than working in a classroom earning money. She paints all of the time to escape from reality. She can not provide for her four children, yet this doesn't seem to phase her as she is free from the working world. Rose Mary Walls ends up out of money living on the streets, and she would rather do this than easily get a job. In my opinion, she takes this too far. In certain circumstances, sacrificing decent living conditions for a self-titled freedom is not worth it.
